Lamborghini Eyes Indian Hybrid Market: Launches Plug-In Hybrid Urus to Leverage New Policy

Italian luxury carmaker Automobili Lamborghini is gearing up to capitalize on India's upcoming hybrid vehicle policy, eyeing significant growth opportunities in the country. This was revealed by a senior company official on Friday.

Lamborghini Unveils Plug-In Hybrid Urus

In a major move, Lamborghini has introduced the plug-in hybrid version of its flagship SUV, the Urus, priced at Rs 4.57 crore (ex-showroom). Speaking at the launch, Francesco Scardoni, Director of Automobili Lamborghini Asia Pacific, expressed confidence in the Indian market. "We see enormous potential for growth in India. The introduction of the Urus has already spurred significant growth, and we anticipate a similar trend next year," Scardoni said.

The company reached a milestone by selling a record 103 units in 2023, following a 33% increase in sales in 2022, with 92 units sold. Sharing Lamborghini's future roadmap, Scardoni highlighted the company's commitment to a fully hybridized product lineup.

India's Hybrid Policy

Commenting on India's hybrid policy, Scardoni stated, "We are aware that the Indian government is working on new policies for hybrid vehicles. We hope to leverage these policies for our cars, as it is still a work in progress. This could be a game-changer for a brand like Lamborghini, potentially driving even more growth in India."

Expressing excitement about the Indian market, he noted that Lamborghini's growth is closely tied to India's rapid economic expansion, currently the fastest-growing economy in the world. The Urus SE, equipped with a re-engineered twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine working in synergy with an electric powertrain, boasts a range of over 60 km in all-electric mode. Deliveries of the Urus SE in India are expected to begin next year.
